UK School Games
The UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s talented young athletes of school age. Over 1600 young athletes compete annually in ten sports: Athletics, Badminton, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Track Cycling and Volleyball, with disability events in swimming athletics and table tennis.
The UK School Games seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting which replicates a major international multi-sport competition and which encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport. The Youth Sport Trust created the event as part of its mission to revitalise competition and sporting opportunities for young people. The Games will leave a lasting legacy for the young competitors and for the host cities (Bath/Bristol 2008, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport 2009).
The 2010 UK School Games will take place in the north east of England, and the programme was officially launched in Newcastle on 15 March by Olympic gold medallist Jason Gardener. The Games kick off on 2 September for 4 days, in venues across Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland, and tickets will go on sale on Monday 3 May. If you'd like to be involved in the 2010 Games without competing, there are volunteering opportunities available.
