New: film and review

5 December 2011

As promised in our Autumn newsletter, we have been working hard to ensure that people are aware of the Trust and the depth and breadth of the projects we fund right across the UK. We have created a film and published our annual review in recent months to spread the word about our funding and the impact it is having.

Our film showcases work from a diverse range of our projects including Hip Hop & Urban Games in the North East, Big Dance in London, Community Games in the West Midlands, Mzansi Cymru in Wales and the Disabled British Open in the South East. Watch the short film here.

Also since our last newsletter we have published our 2010/11 Annual Review which looks at the impact our funding has had in the areas of Children and Young People; Community Engagement; Accessibility and Inclusion and Partnership and Innovation. You can read more about our impact and see some of the fantastic images and case studies that have come out of our projects on our website.

They welcome this exhibition as an opportunity to showcase their work beyond the studio and reach out to new audiences. Leanne Goodall, 21, says of her experience ‘somewhereto_ helped me find a new and free space to exhibit in, the great communication with Elly helped loads and the general atmosphere of the space is great!’ Lucy Noble, 22, said ‘somewhereto_ has meant that I have met new people and found new spaces that I can exhibit in.... I didn’t know anything like this existed and I will definitelty be using somewhereto_ again to find more spaces!’

From Norwich Arts Centre, Holly Rumble, Exhibitions and Education Coordinator, says ‘It has been really great being able to help budding young artists get their work seen by lots of people. The space is up on the website so I look forward to working with more young people from the somewhereto_ project in the future’ and Stuart Hobday, Director, says ‘somewhereto_ is a brilliant project and I’m really glad that we have been able to offer space for young people to follow their passions!’

Young people bring cinema to life in Badersfield

30 November 2011

Young people in Badersfield are trialling a community cinema event at The Battle of Britain Memorial Hall in December. The event aims to bring a sense of community and activity to the village of Badersfield, formerly RAF Coltishall, after the closure of the RAF base in 2006. The event will be hosted by Colin Clarke, 24, with the support of Creative Arts East as part of the somewhereto_ project.

The event presenting Water for Elephants (cert. 12A) at 7pm takes place on Sunday 4th December at the newly refurbished hall on Lamas Road, for the very reasonable introductory price of £3.50 per ticket. Colin says, “I hope that our event will encourage and inspire local residents to use the hall for a wider range of new and traditional community activities and events, and I am looking forward to providing this community with access to one of the latest films in an atmospheric, cinematic environment.”

Colin has achieved his ambitions with help from somewhereto_, a nationwide project funded by Legacy Trust UK. somewhereto_ aims to match young people aged 16-25 with the space they need to do the things they love within sport, culture and the arts. Colin is currently unemployed but using his time wisely by undertaking a placement with Creative Arts East, the somewhereto_ regional coordinator for the east, to help him make the most of this experience.

If, like Colin, you are aged between 16-25 and need a space, or are able to offer a space to young people for such activities, please contact Creative Arts East on 01953 713390, tweet us @somewhereto_EST or get in touch via www.somewhereto.com.
