Young artists showcase new work at Norwich Arts Centre
30 November 2011
Until 6th December visitors to the Norwich Arts Centre will have the pleasure of seeing a selection of new work by 6 young and emerging fine artists soon to graduate from Norwich University College of the Arts.
The exhibition ‘Beyond the Confines’ which features work by Francesca Fowler, Leanne Goodall, Lisa Harrold, Lucy Noble, Gemma Oakley and Natalie Walker on the main wall in the cafe bar. Visitors will see an eclectic range of work in a variety of mediums, exploring themes such as mark making and illusion. This show is a brief insight into work taken from the artists’ studios during the experimental stages of their practice in the run up to their 2012 Degree Show.
The group have been supported to show their work with help from Creative Arts East and Norwich Arts Centre as part of somewhereto_, a nationwide project funded by Legacy Trust UK. somewhereto_ aims to match young people aged 16-25 with the space they need to do the things they love within sport, culture and the arts.
They welcome this exhibition as an opportunity to showcase their work beyond the studio and reach out to new audiences. Leanne Goodall, 21, says of her experience ‘somewhereto_ helped me find a new and free space to exhibit in, the great communication with Elly helped loads and the general atmosphere of the space is great!’ Lucy Noble, 22, said ‘somewhereto_ has meant that I have met new people and found new spaces that I can exhibit in.... I didn’t know anything like this existed and I will definitelty be using somewhereto_ again to find more spaces!’
From Norwich Arts Centre, Holly Rumble, Exhibitions and Education Coordinator, says ‘It has been really great being able to help budding young artists get their work seen by lots of people. The space is up on the website so I look forward to working with more young people from the somewhereto_ project in the future’ and Stuart Hobday, Director, says ‘somewhereto_ is a brilliant project and I’m really glad that we have been able to offer space for young people to follow their passions!’
