Young people take part in Flashmob across Wales

28 October 2010

On Saturday July 25, tourists at heritage sites across Wales were  surprised by the sound of loud music and crowds of young people bursting into spontaneous dance routines.  Flashmob had hit Wales as part of the Cauldrons and Furnaces project - a Wales wide community arts programme funded by Legacy Trust UK and Cadw to animate the ancient historic monuments of Wales.

The young people involved had been meeting secretly in Caernarfon, Denbigh, Harlech and Laugharne for a couple of weeks before the event to learn the choreography and delight the unsuspecting audience.

Cauldrons and Furnaces at Caerphilly

In the first few weeks of the new academic year 300 young people from the valleys of south Wales were given the opportunity of a life time.  They were invited to perform in Illuminata- a son e lumiere spectacle at Caerphilly castle which recounted the turbulent years of Welsh history.  The children were all part of the Cauldrons and Furnace project and were delighted to be involved in such a high profile event.

Darryl Holdcroft from St Martin’s Comprehensive Caerphilly, who plays the role of Hugh Despenser, said, “I think it’s fun. A really good role, because I get to be harsh to the kids. I’m a big lad, so they picked a good person to scare them!”
