South West: RELAYS

RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport) is designed to inspire young people and their communities to take part in cultural and sporting activities in South West England. Its aim is to create a positive and lasting legacy beyond 2012.

RELAYS focuses on three main themes: sport and wellbeing; arts and culture; and knowledge and learning. It runs and supports a variety of exciting festivals, events and activities throughout the region, incorporating elements of both sport and culture.

RELAYS is a £6 million programme, being delivered by eleven of the South West's higher education institutions who work with a range of cultural, sporting, environmental and other educational organisations and businesses.

Illuminate Bath is one of the many projects that make up RELAYS. The first Illuminate Bath arts festival took place from 1 – 13 November 2010. Twenty one events were attended by 41,800 people. More than 100 students, graduates and staff from Bath Spa University showcased their creative work.  A further 100 volunteers and participants were also involved behind the scenes. The team behind the festival are planning a second Illuminate Bath in January 2012.
